I think CBS was correct, it did not reflect their standards, it exceeded them, by far.

As for Coates, started to read one of his books, largely autobiographical, and stopped about 60 pages into it. It was little more than a rant, and if one wants to read a good rant, The Declaration of Independence is my favorite, so far. Just get past the first two paragraphs and it takes off.

Tom Wolfe’s Radical Chic (https://a.co/d/bF0blFF ) is as apropos today as it was over 50 years ago. Joe you are 100% correct when you imply a “death by a thousand cuts” of never-ending micro-aggressions (to coin a favorite term of the woke movement) perpetrated by the entertainment industry against rational thought when it constantly presents versions of America which it desires vs what it is. This deliberate portrayal of an LGBTQ saturated society rich with successful, powerful BIPOC characters together with weak, dumb, laughable white men may be the writers way of trying to change the traditional narrative. But when every outlet including television, commercials, movies, streams, sports and music is pushing this intentional misrepresentation of race and identity, it comes off as an abject denial of reality. It therefore is both rejected as an attempt at indoctrination but also simply as one more expression of racism and fill-in-the-blank-ism. And frankly foolishness. And that’s the best reaction you can hope for from an educated, independent voter. For the already MAGA fueled, they are constant attacks and a declaration of culture war. And as you point out, that keeps the Trump train a’runnin’.

FYI, there are a number of people considering Trump not because of cultural issues, as you suggest as the primary motivator, but because of the critical domestic and foreign policy issues that some see as miserable failures of the current administration. Made worse by the fact that Harris has boasted as having no apologies for or learnings from and appears to plan to continue and amplify. More taxes for more 'investments' by more government. Please note the wording, 'considering Trump'. It is an abysmal choice. One administration seeking more very hard-earned taxpayer dollars to create bigger, more bloated, less effective D/E/I led government--i.e. not very competent. And one guy, so embattled and angry, he can't make the common-sense argument for an alternative. ON THE OTHER POINT of Ta-Nihisi Coates, as annoying as he is, the shameful pandering of not only CBS but NPR (have you heard the interview?) and PBS is truly concerning. That CBS management scolded the interviewer reveals so much about how corrupt and propaganda driven big newsrooms are. 60 Minutes included! Whatever CBS stood for and represented in the past, is long gone. It is a platform for antisemites, big government cheerleaders and bigots of all stripes.

Excellent piece! George W. Bush, for whom I proudly never voted, said at least one smart thing. When he discussed problems with education in America, he said that some problems were caused by the soft bigotry of low expectations. That was in 2000, 24 years ago, and nothing has changed. Guilty White liberals still treat Blacks condescendingly and unequally in the guise of "equity" -- and many people resent it, not just White people. This is a problem for Democrats, not Republicans. CBS should be ashamed.

Joe, I know a fair share of very sane people your age. Weirdly enough, none of them are laboring under the threat of prosecution. Fear of jail or the need to flee the country to avoid jail would suck the life and sanity out of anyone, n’est-ce pas?
