Given the site, I must first clarify that I never voted for Trump and oppose many of his initiatives and policies, particularly his Administration's cavalier approach to democratic procedures and rule of law (to state the matter euphemistically), its pointless trade wars (perhaps now winding down), and its gratuitous stirring up of too many counter-productive controversies.

I also believe in giving credit where it is due, and so far President Trump seems to have handled the current Iranian crisis skillfully and even imaginatively. I certainly agree with his decision to hinder or destroy Iran's capacity to develop nuclear arms and to limit the US military operation in Iran accordingly: Iran's current regime has been an egregiously bad actor for too long, causing too much harm to its own people and neighbors.

I also like Trump's follow-up, which has been to offer carrots (inducements to peaceful behavior) and credible sticks (worse to follow if the carrots aren't accepted). It sounds as though there even might be an end to the war between Iran and Israel, brokered by the Trump Administration. If so, kudos for that excellent work. All of it has been carried out swiftly and efficiently, with no dithering or endless equivocation.

Indeed, Trump will deserve a Nobel Peace Prize if he can somehow negotiate a new grand peace accord in the Near East, which reconciles Iran, Israel, the Arab countries, and other groups who live in the region (e.g., Turks, the Kurds, etc.).

The Southern Levant in particular and the Near East more generally should be a great seat of prosperity, innovation, and culture. I understand that it is also one of the most beautiful regions of the world.

What a senseless pity and tragedy that its peoples seem locked in tribal warfare of the kind that characterized the region during Antiquity. The antidote, surely, is some sort of forced economic collaboration that gradually evolves into natural free trade among peoples who finally grasp that they can prosper together.

That was the general approach successfully used in Europe after World War II: the French and the Germans, hereditary enemies to the bone, went to war against one another three times from 1870 to 1939. Finally, from 1951 onward, they grudgingly learned to work together on the original, economically vital projects of Europe's Coal and Steel Community. Gradually, they become economic collaborators, business partners, and even peaceful neighbors. Now they have fully integrated economies and would find any war between the two countries to be inconceivable. It took their near total destruction before they could be made to see the light.

If they did it, so too can the peoples of the Near East. If Trump is the man for this job, then he will finally and fully deserve the enormous credit that he so obviously wishes to earn during his lifetime, at least for this accomplishment.

I have never voted for Trump, but I think that he did the right thing.

Should we find that Russia is willing to help Iran along, should not the U.S. Government, return to Ukraine, the atom bombs, or their equivalents, that they surrendered to both the U.S. and Russia?

Their reaction to such a gesture might be very interesting to see.

Putin's right-hand man Dmitri Medvedev posted today that OF COURSE Iran was enriching uranium to make a nuclear weapon, and he hoped it would continue.

Perhaps that will put some of the lefty doubters--instinctive sympathizers with any enemy of the U.S.--to rest.

The gop in 2001? Low taxes and foreign wars of choice. The GOP in 2025? 🤔 The same. It doesn't matter if their were wise old white men (Cheney, rumsfeld, wolfowitz, Powell etc) OR total imbeciles like the group we have now. The Results are the same. Illegal wars of choice by old white men that send young people off to war and waste trillions of dollars. Imagine the nation we could have been? Free education, free Healthcare, reduced poverty. A sane and healthy place for our children to live. Imagine.

The pages of the spectacular Trump presidency are being written faster and faster while at the same time the paranoias of those afflicted with Trump derangement syndrome are becoming sillier and sillier.

I wonder when these TDS afflicted with their Elmer Fudd impersonations of “Twump is a twet to [whatever]…” finally recognize how much they’ve been fooled and how foolish they’ve been, will their embarrassment be so extreme that it is physically painful? And who says Trump supporters lack empathy for those who suffer?

I do. The Trump supporters care nothing for the many thousands that have already died due to USAID cuts, the many who will die if the Medicaid cuts he is trying to impose are passed and the many thousands who have already lost their jobs -or can’t find one- due to his maniacal economic policies. I don’t know where you live, but from Maine to North Carolina, he is hated with a passion. And in 49 of the 50 wealthiest counties I.e. the ones driving American prosperity. The Iran attack appears likely to be yet another where both sides will bray and go home, probably for the best. But those who trust Trump in any sort of delicate situation are in for rude awakening.

USAID that actually delivered food or medicine was not ended, but rolled in to other State Dept. programs. If Dems were concerned about the end of programs delivering food and medical care, they should have been calling for the people who engineered millions for 3rd World adult cosmetic circumcisions, trans operas and sex change operations, to be fired and/ or charged with abuse of power.

Medicaid is not being cut. Those ineligible are being removed from the program. That is cutting fraud, not care. Working age adults, without young dependents, are being asked to work or volunteer, at least 20 hours a week. Oh the horror!

Dems worse case scenario is this works. Iran tucks its' tail between its' legs and runs home. After Oct. 7 there was little question Iran would nuke Israel, at its' first opportunity. By all means, hate Trump , but this one is likely to break his way.

The votes of those in the most prosperous counties in the US, do not count any more than the votes of residents of the least wealthy counties. That is kind of the whole point of the United States.

The ability to project decisive military force - when used judiciously - is an incredibly valuable asset for the people of the United States. An obvious and non-partisan point around which we should all be able to coalesce. We actually saw two examples of it this week: the B2 drops and the missile interceptors.
