A basic quibble, Trump is not on trial for treason, Matt Gaetz, whatever he has done, has not been convicted of human trafficking and so on. The right to be considered innocent till proven guilty is being disparaged and ignored way too often these days. We all hope we will never use it or need it, BUT life throws things in our path, and even with those one exceedingly disagrees with, should be granted that issuance of innocent till proven guilty.

Trump exaggerates enough, we don't need to copy him.

Joe-thanks for the shoutout to Congressman Mike Gallagher. Even though I disagreed with him on the impeachment of Mayorkas, he is a man of impeccable character, highly intelligent and an all around cool dude. (He’s a Marine with a PHD!)…his work on the select China committee is absolutely vital.

PG-C'mon. There were no grounds for impeaching Mayorkas. Those of us on the Sanity Side have to keep rigorous standards. That's why I love Gallagher, as you do. We're really on the same side here, aren't we? I just hope your Republicans don't kick him out. (Gonna try to find out what's actually happening here through my With Honor sources.)

Joe, I think Congressman Gallagher is safe from our crazies as he is widely recognized as a man of honor and has also been telegraphing his opposition to the act of impeachment for months. I am sympathetic to his views on impeachment (even as I disagree), especially as Mayorkas has clearly been doing the Administration’s bidding.

So yes, we are pretty much on the same side here, Joe.

Another great essay but I don’t think the zeitgeist is changing. (I have to give Joe credit, I did t now what a zeitgeist was until he told me). We know that the Trump thugs aren’t changing but the real problem is all the rest. I’ve exchanged emails with people whô say they would never vote for Trump but are voting for a third party candidate even though they they agree that those votes will elect trump. Then there are the folks who think he’s too moderate. Then there are the folks who think Gaza and Biden are immoral - even though he seems to be the only grownup actually trying to stop the war. And of course there is the whole group’(Joe is in this one) who think he is too old. Etc. Etc. You woukd think that there was a solid majority that would come, forward in favor of democracy But obviously not

Come, come, Plucky, telling people how to vote is exactly what we are here for, improving the breed through natural selection, as it were. But there is a criteria at work here: my guess is that you are represented by Cliff Buntz, and while I don’t agree with him on a damn thing, it’s probably true that he does a fair representation of his constituents’ views and doesn’t embarrass himself. That cannot be said of Marjorie Taylor Green and Matt Gaetz -or Jamaal Bowman and Ayanna Pressley. So, yeah, when the opportunity comes to dispose of a representative of the right or left who is contributing to the chaos in the Congress, which is a major source of our misery right now, the voters should take it.

Also, is there a better story than Al Green lurching onto the House in his hospital gown to vote against the Mayorkas outrage? “Take Me to the River” indeed!
