Yeah Joe, as a conservative I would have to disagree with your overall assessment of this President, particularly his foreign policy chops. I well remember Secretary Gates’ classic remark about President Biden being “wrong about every big foreign policy decision over the past forty years.” (As a Marine who did four tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, I was particularly disgusted by the way we departed Afghanistan).

By the way, I appreciated your comments on aging, including your own; We can all relate. And you are indeed still a very graceful writer.

Thanks for your service....Helmand and Al-Anbar, I'd guess. I'm a big fan of Gates, but that was a gag, not a serious assessment of Biden. And I think Joe has done the right thing in Ukraine, the Middle East and Asia. But as I said, there was no way we were going to leave Af without a mess (though running the Evac through Bagram would have helped). And thanks for the tone and intelligence of your comments.

There is no way we are going to leave Ukraine without a mess, too. Many things are lacking in our effort, among them a clear statement of war goals by the US and the western alliance. No western troops involved, yet, but all slopes are slippery in limited wars. Eventually, we and our money will leave (too costly for achievable aims, whatever they may be), but the Russians will stay. They live right next door.

What lies ahead for the USA and Ukraine? Claims of betrayal, recriminations, and fortunes and thousands of are lives spent to little avail.

hey putinist troll, you think AF and UA are the same? huge difference between a committed nation (UA) and a bunch of bribe takers and thieves (the AF elite -- or Putin's elite).

Joe, Not sure that Gates meant his takedown of President Biden as a “gag,” as he did write about it in his book and repeat it during the 2016 campaign. (I am willing to concede that it might have not been meant literally). Still, I am sure that Gates was referring to Biden’s opposition to the Iranian “surge,” his tripartite plan for Iraq, the downplaying of ISIS threat after leaving Iraq in 2011, his support for the JCPOA, and Obama’s dismissal of his Syrian “redline,” to name a few. (His treatment of the Abraham accords, cool treatment of Israel and Saudi Arabia and disastrous Kabul pullout hadn’t happened).

Yes, the President is doing the right thing in Ukraine but he is also slow walking vital weapon systems and not rallying the American people to a noble cause. Most importantly, his Chinese policy is completely reactive and any leadership our government has on that issue is coming from Chairman Gallagher’s vital select Committee on China. Anyway, don’t mean to drone on-- keep up the great work!

Sorry but I couldn’t disagree with you more. Biden is by far the best alternative we have against the treasonous imbecile and his cult members.

A communist? Do you have any idea what you’re talking about? Like Trump’s use of “Marxist”? It’s imbecilic in the extreme.

imbecilic in the extreme = calling people who have differing politics cult members

You’re intentionally being provocative. “The left” are not communists or marxists & it’s ludicrous to keep trotting out these generic words as epithets. Get over yourself. It’s a very limited, condescending framework

Differing politics? These aren’t political differences. They are differences based on whether one believes a transparent conman and grifter whose lies kill, destroy and imprison people versus those who can see reality for what it is.

Agree completely. And paralysis is precisely the right term to describe the Democrat's current condition. This is a critical moment. If something or someone doesn't shake them out of their current holding pattern, I fear the exact same thing you do: Biden just gets older, his ratings stay where they've been for the last 2+ years, and Trump goes ahead and pulls it out in 24'.

Joe Biden is not making any decisions about governing this country. It's time we stopped pretending that he is in charge. He is a construct of an amiable old man who has no say in any policy whatsoever. His was put in place for that very reason. He is a weak Emperor being managed by a Praetorian Guard.

Having said this, he can win next year for two reasons. For many he is a totem for policies that they support - see John Fetterman here in PA. They would vote for anyone who is representative of specific policies, even a senile 80+ year old like Joe. . The second reason is that the D's have enough lawyers and are in charge of enough states so that, even if Trump wins the state, his votes will be buried. If the D's need to turn 2-3 states, they will find a way to do it.

What conspiratorial nonsense! Of course Biden is in charge of policy making. Your speculations are pure fiction.

Like COVID was not a lab leak and the vaccines will keep you from getting infected? Or like Trump colluded with the Russians in 2016? Or Hunter's laptop was merely Russian disinformation? Or Joe Biden never ever talked to his son about his business ventures?

Those were all facts that are now known as fiction. Which of those did you believe in?

I saw his comments on Labor Day and he seemed to me but the job of leading a nation is a job for a young or younger person and we’d be well served by a younger candidate. Obama did a disservice to the country in 2015 or 16 telling Biden it was Hillary’s turn.

I think Joe, despite the many flaws, squeaks by against DJT given the huge negatives the Mango Mussolini will have by election time. But I (quite reluctantly and sadly) agree with the notion that if Nikki Haley somehow gets the nomination, we really do need to pile on and get the man to step aside. Like JK, I have been a great admirer of Biden for decades - but the age narrative is pretty deeply embedded, and we Democrats do not want NOT want the 2024 election to be referendum about US.

Thank you for saying this, I was beginning to think that I was the only one thinking this. I use a bus analogy for how America is and I have been advocating for Dems to pull a ‘Bait & Switch’…
