When look at Biden I see a man who fails to understand what has happened to the party he leads, our party. He fails to understand that affirmative action relies upon overt racism and not the judgement of an individual's character as MLK Jr wished for at the Lincoln Memorial sixty years ago.

He fails to understand that no matter how much an individual may desire it they can't change their biological sex and that you can't force the average American to believe such unscientific nonsense and even less will that average American allow children to be sterilized to achieve the impossible. He fails to understand that allowing the unfettered import of millions of illegal immigrants who are willing to work for next to nothing just to be here undercuts the wages of our working class and insures that they will vote for the equally ignorant Trump. It further is destroying many of our cities as they struggle to house the newcomers before housing our own citizens. We need leadership in our party who are rooted in reality on every issue as the Democrats are on climate change and on a woman's right to choose.

Being right just sometimes and wrong so many other times as both parties are today

just isn't going to cut it anymore if we are to survive as a nation.

- "insures that they will vote for the equally ignorant Trump."

This is a nonsensical sentence; the insurance that they vote for Trump is precisely because he takes the correct stance on these matters and therefore - by definition - LESS ignorant.

And guess what the Dems are wrong on Climate Change and Abortion too. They learn no lessons from their response to COVID on climate change, and the "right to choose" is a political matter, not one based on reality. Women were not put on the planet with the ability to self abort.

It's unbelievable. Every post Joe makes is an argument for why any rational person should vote for Trump. But then you're told you shouldn't because you wouldn't like him marrying your daughter. Unbelievable.

It's not about what Biden understands. He's mentally incompetent and has been throughout his term. It's about whatever the stand-in understands, and who that might be.

Famously, when people were aghast that Abraham Lincoln named an alleged drunkard (US Grant) as general of the Union Army, he responded “if I could give the rest of my generals what Grant is drinking, I would.” Somehow, employment is high, inflation is low, crime is down (12% from last year), America is not fighting any wars but its most dangerous foe is being steadily weakened, the US is steering a decent middle course in the Gaza situation, and the US is making some progress toward saving the planet. So you might want to reconsider the snide attitude that solves no problems and spreads no love.

Yet you are still losing.

Expand full comment

Losing some things, winning others. Winning in the sense the sense that my city - New York- is richer, safer, cleaner and less tense than when I arrived in 1982 and the subway, on which I have been working, is substantially better. Losing in the sense that troglodytes like you on the right and self righteous poseurs on the left have combined to ensure that the effort to keep the planet from overheating has been inadequate. White Republicans, meanwhile, are poorer, more resentful, and exhibiting ever shorter life expectancies. If that is your idea of winning, you are welcome to it.

So you are a self-hating white racist. Quite the combo, and emblematic of "progressives" like yourself and your friends.

Congrats for ruining the Democratic Party, Curtis! If you are looking for a "poser," find the nearest mirror. And say hello to Senile Joe Biden and his drug addict son the next time they have you over to dinner, okay?

By the way, why do you think New York leads the country in the percentage of residents leaving for other states? Oh, wait! I know what you will say. It is because of Trump and white racists. It's the "progressive" answer to everything.

Expand full comment

People leave New York because living here is so bloody. And that is a function of the fact that so many people want to move here. The city has grown 1.8 million over the last 40 years which is indicative of some growth and prosperity.

You seem quite pleased with insults you hurl, but they really don’t land because there is no basis to any of it. And I remain puzzled about what it is you and your minions are actually for besides just getting a rise out of people you don’t like. We have gotten more votes than Republicans in eight out nine of the last elections largely due to the kind of anger and resentment you guys peddle.

Expand full comment

True, I spread no love. For that, we need Black Lives Matter and Free Palestine, the faces of the New Democratic Party that I cannot recognize. Say hi to Senile Joe for me!

Expand full comment

I have little use or love for Black Lives Matter or the pro-Palestine groups but they at least start from a place of empathy-even if they quickly go off the rails. The right wing, meanwhile, seems to be motivated by nothing except enmity and point scoring. Hard to see what they are for, exactly except an ill-defined retribution for - what?? Providing affordable care? 50 year low unemployment? All time high stock market? As for your accusation that Biden is senile, to quote Christopher Hitchens “that which is presented without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.”

Expand full comment

So you have little use for "empathy," white racist?

Expand full comment

No but empathy can lead some advocates to going down some wrong paths - some advocates allowed their sympathy for a few victims to a general anti-police stance, with predictable results. But I would rather try to talk sense into those guilty of too enthusiasm than dealing with the hurt and vengeful folks who seem to populate the MAGA movement.

Believing that Netanyahu wanted to flatten Gaza and was biding his time waiting for the right moment when his action would be supported by the US and international community does not make one an antisemite. It makes one a Netanyahu hater; a sentiment he greatly deserves.

look guys. When God Emperor Trump wins (for the third time) and brings the second Age of Enlightenment and Pax Americana - do me a favor. After the usual despair and rending of garments just think to yourselves:

If you're this bad at political analysis, maybe there's a lot more you're wrong about and should pay a little more attention to the people who have a track record about correct about things. Haley and ESPECIALLY Christie are WORSE than Trump in nearly every way. Hatred truly is blind.

While the idea that Netanyahu plotted the Hamas attack is a pernicious lie, there is no question that one of the most heartbreaking aspects of 10/7 are the agonized texts of people wondering why the IDF was not coming to their rescue. And let’s be clear: if there was an attack on the US in which the response was as slow as the Israelis’ was, the Republicans would be impeaching Joe Biden by now. Something went profoundly wrong that day, and we should keep an open mind about the causes. And Bibi must go.

"It might be fun if Biden appointed ... [Chris Christie] to replace Merrick Garland before the general election—Christie would be one hell of a campaign surrogate ...."

With decades of experience reporting on national politics, how can you not know -- even if there were some reason to replace Merrick Garland, which there isn't -- that certain cabinet officers, including the Attorney General and the Secretary of State, are supposed to refrain from electoral campaigning, so that their performance of their official duties will be viewed as free from partisanship?

One way to describe this is as a smartass mocking a fellow American for describing her feelings in language that seems natural to her. This is not admirable, whatever your friends may think. Instead, listen closely. Interpret. She might be saying something that will profit you to know.

Oh for God's sake, if I had $100 for every time a pathetic, overwrought, bedwetting "progressive" announced that Donald Trump is "terrifying," I'd be Warren Buffett by now. Look, kids, he's a rodeo clown. He's the loudmouth at the local tavern who hates the mayor and somehow got himself elected once.

Will he win this November? It will be about the economy, as it always is. But if the economy dooms Biden, then the margin will be big, and it will be big because the Democratic Party has become a self parody. Mr. Klein, you'd be much more useful if you would ask just why the Democratic Party has managed to hook itself to a stumbling, bumbling, corrupt, lying, senile lightweight named Joe Biden at the firgurehead level, and at the policy level to every 20- and 30- something lefty poli-sci majorette from this or that Eastern finishing school.

Really, at long last, that is the best you can do? The Republicans have long been renowned as the stupid party, with considerable justification. It does truly surprise me to watch what the Democrats have become. Dumb, meet dumber. Joe Klein, that's the column you should have written, rather than another boring, virtue signaling, sleep-walking formulaic screed. Sheesh.

In '16, I wrote in Vermin Supreme because at least he admitted that he was a clown. Plus I was intrigued by the thought of getting a free pony. In '20, I wrote in Kanye West because he was upfront about being insane, plus it was nice to not be a racist. This year, if No Labels actually ends up being real, they will get my vote. Otherwise, another supercilious write-in. If the two parties are determined to be jokes, I'll have to go along.

Have I thus "terrified" anyone? I hope so. Call me names -- please! -- and try to forget that I have just stated the majority view in this country right now. I can use the laughs.

This President of ours who you hold in such contempt managed to get elected to the Senate at the age of thirty, overcame one of the most devastating tragedies a human can endure, became the most popular and enduring politician in his state, and remains a decent, humane and well meaning man. He oversees an economy that is progressing at a satisfying pace, creating more jobs than any President in history without the benefit of World War II. He seems to be beloved by Maureen Dowd, no small achievement. Would I prefer it if he confronted the left on some of their more egregious excesses? Yes, I would, but I know a lot about the patience one has to exhibit to keep the lefties who n the coalition, and Biden is basically doing what he has to do. As for Trump, his contempt for veterans and military people alone should disqualify him from consideration and the fact that you appear capable of laughing that off does you no credit.

Thanks for that! We all need the laughs. Do you do standup?

By the way, next time you are talking to grandpa -- maybe while the nurses are changing his diaper? -- make sure to thank him for appointing Sam Brinton. You know, the sweet transvestite from transsexual Transylvania put in charge of keeping the radiation at the Hanford reservation from heading down the Columbia River to the 3 million people between there and Portland.

I happen to live a few miles as the eagle flies from that river that your people left to Franknfurter's cousin's devices. I paid attention to that prototypical New Democrat, a fine symbol of what the party I called home for 40 years has become. These are YOUR people. Orange Jesus vs. Red Lipstick on a dress thief. This is our choice. You are exactly half of the tragedy that the federal government has become.

Keep us laughing, Curtis.
