Biden will go down in history as a great president, especially if people finally start realizing that Trump's reelection in 2020 would have led us into disaster. Trump and his cronies would never have taken the steps Biden did to bring us back from the brink of a depression. They would have been too busy lining their own pockets the way they did from 2017-2021.
How come I get the strong feeling that Schumer’s execrable speech was for partisan electoral consumption more than our Israeli friends? The good news is that Biden and the Democrats’ cynical attempt to make Bibi the fall guy in an effort to win over those who oppose taking a hardline against Hamas will backfire. It will please neither the campus “from the river to the sea” crowd or millions of American Jews. And best of all, the IDF will continue to kill Hamas.
Hey PG--Every so often a politician does something for the best, least cynical of reasons. This speech won't help Schumer with AIPAC, his funders and perhaps not with the Israeli people. He has rarely stepped out like this. Whether you agree with him or not, this sort of candor and courage is needed in American politics--as is Mike Pence's refusal to support Agent Orange.
Joe, I hope that you are right about Schumer’s “purity” of thought, and I of course respect you, so I should not impugn motives. And maybe I am too influenced by my daily dose of John Poderentz and the Commentary podcast gang, (and Dan Senor’s podcast). Nevertheless all calls for a ceasefire before Hamas is eradicated seem very wrongheaded to me, a thought shared by both Bibi and Beni Gantz.
Ps I understand Pence and respect him as well. But it is a binary choice and Trump presents the lesser of two evils IMHO.
New York Times, I’ll make you a deal: add Tom Friedman to the Gail Collins-Bret Stephans “conversation” and I will re-up my subctption.
I get, and respect where Bret is coming from, but he really does need to challenged by the likes of Friedman, particularly on the extent to which Israel is hurting itself.

Great conversation with Bill Kristol. Not quite as much fun as your convo with Andrew Sullivan, but as always, I learned something new.
